Wienerberger & Green Building

Wienerberger India is producing high-quality large format clay hollow blocks from the second half of 2008. Besides, we are importing an exclusive range of clay roof tiles and façade tiles from our overseas factories.

Green Building

For preserving our resources for the future.

Green Building promotes the efficiency of buildings with regards to the use of water, energy and materials while reducing the building´s impact on individual’s health and the environment through better design, construction, operation, maintenance and removal. Hence Green Building is all about the complete building life cycle;it is also regarded as sustainable building or environmental building. The term “Green Building” is often used in combination with “high-performance building”, “sustainable design” and “preserving precious resources”.

We believe in clay!

Clay itself is a 100% natural material and the process of fetching it from the clay pit as well as the production process of the clay bricks has minimal impact on the environment in the long-run. Clay is a product which canusually be taken from the local environment and does not need to be transported over long distances.

During the production process waste is added (fly ash, saw dust, rice husk) and only a minimal amount of waste products occur and can be recycled or used elsewhere. The rejected bricks can be recycled and even at the end of its lifetime a clay brick is for example used in the construction of roads as sub-basematerial.

The typical characteristics of clay bricks include the extraordinary thermal insulation, sound insulation, structural strength and safety. They are fireproof, water resistant and as already mentioned: durable, recycable and therefore exceptionally enviormentally friendly.

Various historical brick buildings demonstrate the remarkable lifetime of clay bricks - to mention just a few eg:

  • The Roman Aqueducts
  • The Colosseum in Rome, Italy
  • The Great Wall of China
  • The Walls of Jericho
  • Ischtar Gate, Babylon
